Hi. I'm an art teacher according to my weekly paycheck. But I'm an artist first.
I've always had the trouble of narrowing myself down. I enjoy doing a little bit of everything in terms of the visual arts, and have created this website as a way to organize the work that's come out of my studio. I haven't limited myself to the "15-20 piece portfolio" on here; rather, this site is a collection of most of my work.
Illustration
The first section of my portfolio represents works that I feel have a distinct illustrative quality. All my work has an illustrative quality, actually, but these are the ones I feel communicate the clearest message, whether political or whimsical. I've begun to move from oil paint to a mixture of paint and printmaking techniques.
Paintings
The next section is devoted to the paintings I create in a more traditional mindset. There are stories here, but they can also be seen as landscapes and portraits. Currently, the painting section is quite small. I haven't scanned a lot of work in yet for that, and am beginning a new series.
Printmaking
Following that is a selection of my monoprints. I really enjoy the intensity and immediacy of printmaking, and am blessed to have access to a great printing press. This section is probably the fullest and offers the most in terms of subtle varieties within a subject. My prints have been gaining moderate success in terms of their gallery showings and purchasings. Can't complain about that.
Photography
Finally, I have a section of photographs broken down into the subsets of abstracts, travel, and "other" (yes, that's broad). Leaving home without my camera feel very unnatural at this point, and though I have the least formal training in photography, I think the concepts behind successful photography are the same as those used in any other type of visual art. Because of that, I don't feel I should be ashamed to show my photography even though other photographers have spent years in training... I guess I'm just a quick learner ;)
If there is anything on here you are interested in showing, publishing, or purchasing, please don't hesitate to contact me!
